About
Handmade Originals is my creative call to arms on YouTube. Through it I aim to encourage, and maybe even inspire you, to have a go at your own creative projects, whatever they might be. I'm opening this shop so that I can facilitate your creative projects with some products that I have put together, which will hopefully, guide you on your way.
I hope you join me on this and many other creative journeys at Handmade Originals on YouTube. Let's have some fun together.
Spring is in the air.
As someone who is a bit of a jumblethink, I find it tremendously helpful to journal my many and random ideas, but journalling really comes into its own when one has challenges in life, or just huge ideas to tackle. So I have created these journals for you with the idea that the phoenix on the cover will help you envisage your own resilience, renewal and transformation.
Transformation Journal- a Companion for life's challenges
The phoenix, rising from its own ashes, embodies the essence of transformation. This journal encourages you to embrace change, no matter how overwhelming, and to see it as an opportunity for renewal. Each blank page is a canvas for your thoughts, emotions, and reflections, inviting you to transform your experiences into a narrative of personal growth.
Available in a variety of colours- something to suit everyone.

We all stress about when, how and even whether we should ask our viewers to subscribe- allow this little mug to do the heavy lifting for you, with a bit of subliminal marketing. A request for your viewers on the front and some advice for you on the back, whether you are left or right handed. There's something for everyone. Now go and have fun creating.

Then using the new brush pens, which I have linked in the description in my youtube channel, or whichever medium you prefer, colour them in, stand back and admire- don't forget to send them though!
Guides to help publish a children's storybook
My latest series of videos on Handmade Originals shows how I wrote, illustrated and published a child's story book, so my very first products in this shop are to help guide you to do the same. I have created a series of printables, which I would have found useful on my journey and it is my hope, that they help to guide you on yours. You will get the most out of these printables if you watch the (free) videos as well. You can find all FIVE of the videos at:
https://www.youtube.com/@BecomingCreative
And my book which I use as a reference in the video, 'Lottie and the Croc' is available on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3AOZ8cA
Before we start, my gift to you...
So you want to write, illustrate and publish, your own children's storybook? It's not rocket science, but the journey can be a bit confusing and at times feel overwhelming, as there are so many things to consider. So here is a little gift, from me to you, to help you on your way: a checklist of everything you need to tick off before you reach your final goal- Bon voyage!

Guide 1: First, let's Storyboard your ideas.
Storyboarding is where you very roughly work out the shape of your story and what illustrations are going to go where. Seeing it all in front of you should allow you to work out the beginning middle and end of your story. KDP requires a minimum of 24 pages: most children's storybooks run to 32. Whether you are a concentrated and tidy or a big picture kind of person, we've got you covered, with three pages of downloads for each size. Why three pages, for the beginning middle and the end pages. By the time you've sketched your ideas out, you will have a clear picture of what your finished book will look like...

Guide 2: What are your parameters?
One thing I absolutely hate, is wasted effort. So having brain dumped all of your ideas and had a look at the overview of what's ahead (in Guide 3), this little (actually it runs to 4+ pages) guide just gives you some parameters to consider before you start those brilliant illustrations and that page turning story telling.

Not so much of a guide as a nudge...
Ok it's time- you know what you want to say and illustrate: you've considered your parameters, so get painting/ drawing etc
Guide 3: Your rainbow format journey and overview.
I created this largely because I would have found it so helpful when creating my own children's storybook. If you, like me are a visual learner I think you will find it invaluable. When you have completed your illustrations, follow the rainbow steps and you will be guided as to which formats your files and images need to be in for different parts of the journey. I will certainly have it pinned to my screen for my next book.

Guide 4: Adding Front Matter in Canva
If you check with the rainbow guide (no 3 in this series), you will see that the next step is to upload your content illustrations and cover files (separately) up to Canva, where you will add your text and 'Front Matter'. This guide explains what Front Matter is, how to set it out and that tricky matter of copyright.

Check out the side bar to buy the whole children's storybook collection
Each of these guides can be downloaded individually, but why not buy the whole set as a collection, for yourself or anyone you know, who is interested in writing a children's storybook. You might find it useful to also purchase Lottie and the Croc, which I use as a reference for lots of the advice given in the guides and videos.
'Lottie and the Croc' is available to purchase separately on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3AOZ8cA
